Ivan Mihaljevic and Side Effects new Album Counterclockwise
begins with eerie vocals reminiscent of "A momentary lapse of
reason."
What it has in store for the next eight tracks is a great
album experience with a similar feel to the classic. As the album progressing
the heaviness hits not just in the bass line but in the lyrical expression and
guitar solos. The bass line by Majkl Jagunic gives the thunder that the album
needs to pump you up in Build Your Destiny (track 2) before the inevitable fall
later in the album. The guitar solos by vocalist / guitarist Ivan Mihaljevic
are at time reminiscent of the blues scales found in a Chicago blues house.
This album is a wonderful listen whether you are working or
just to enjoy in comfort of your home.
The epic and theatrical 12 minutes monster found in Eclipse
(track 8) will have you moving your volume slider to the right and making sure
your speakers are dialed up. However this is where the album takes a turn from
songs as “Gilded cage (track 5) and Gift of Life (track 6)
The track I am (track 9) 'sends you home': a song that would
be appropriate for any final encore.
My favorite song on this album I saved for last “What is
Underneath” (track 3) which seems to have a certain truth to it. But, overall, I have to say that –in every
songs- the guitar work is super hot!
The mix is really, really cool as well. I like
everything: the cherished, claimed music
breakdown and transition in the first song as well! But I listened and
re-listened each single track.
My final verdict is: keep up the Good Work because musically the whole album is
awesome!
